  • Ricky Malcolm-Campaign for this years New Plymouth District Council elections.

    August 28th, 2010

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of photographing Ricky Malcolm for his campaign in the New Plymouth district council elections. You can check out his site here where you’ll see some of the images we’ve taken: Ricky Malcolm

I say an absolute pleasure because it has been just that, amidst getting the right images for what he’d like to portray I’ve been learning a lot about this inspirational guy who is conscientious, friendly, personable, respectable, and someone I would be happy to have on my local district council. He doesn’t have an ounce of ego & everything he’s doing and concentrating on is for the good of the community, definitely a trait worth respecting in this day and age. Outside of his campaign he’s also quite the entrepreneur with many things going on like the director of his own online TV and more. Personally the key things I like about Ricky when it comes to his campaign is his knowledge and understanding of what we need here in New Plymouth, also his drive to find out what we’d like and the way he puts this information into motion, also his full understanding and usage of modern technology and how it can help our future endeavors as a community. As the internet, G3 phones, etc are all amazing mediums, they have only been around for a very short time and so are hard to grasp for some, with Ricky all of these things are second nature. I think it’s imperative to have some new blood in the system, someone who knows how it works and how it can be used to full advantage, he’ll have some tough competition out there, and when he gets elected he’ll have a tough time at times trying to help some come to grips with the way the world works these days, but there’s no doubt in my mind that over the coming years he’ll be a name you’ll know very well.

You got it, I’ll be voting for him.

Here’s a couple of Banners with my imagery from his site where you can learn more about him- click here, and you’ll also be seeing some of them as billboards around town very soon…

    River To Well Photography competition

    August 28th, 2010

If you’re a photographer reading this blog then check this out: http://www.rivertowell.com/index.html

It’s a photography competition with the proceeds going to getting a water well for a village in Africa, what a brilliant idea!

    an excerpt from their site:

    “Our Impact
In 2009, River to Well’s inaugural photo competition brought the first well to the village of Ndhambi, South Africa. More than 270 entries were accepted from eight different countries and over $5,000 was raised. This year, we plan to bring another well to Qwa-Dick, South Africa. In this village of 10,000, people rely on an engine to pump “clean” water from a nearby river. When the engine is out of order, women must walk to the river and carry water back to their homes and schools in five-gallon buckets. A centrally located well would make truly clean water available and accessible to everyone.”

    Good Luck!

    Timelapse of Cameron Betts

    August 25th, 2010

For those who don’t know, Cameron is a young videographer in New Plymouth, at a young age he’s already making waves and has worked on some decent projects over the past year or two already. Here’s his blog and here’s his CMVideo site

I worked with Cameron on some images for his new site, he required images that showed who he was, had a kind of cinematic feel to them, and something just a little ‘outside the box’. We got some great images, and on top of that I created a time-lapse in the studio for him. A fun little project that had to take a good amount of thinking prior to shooting it, once I had the images they all had to have the same processing and adjustments so they matched perfectly and also had the same cinematic look I’d done on the others for him so everything combined fitted together nicely throughout his site. I also didn’t want to create ‘just another time-lapse’, I wanted it to be a little different to others I had seen, and so after toying with a few ideas this is the end result. When I sent it through to Cameron he loved it as much as I did. So here it is..
